Sydney Hayes
Sydney is known for making connections that others might miss. Her talent for complex legal research and strategy helps her develop successful litigation tactics that further her clients’ goals.
Sydney represents clients in complex civil litigation involving state and federal constitutional law, commercial disputes, personal injury, and election law. She guides clients through the litigation process and has achieved positive results at every stage of a case—from pre-suit resolution through trial. Sydney also has significant experience in appellate litigation, from advising clients on appellate strategy, to authoring appellate briefs, to oral argument.
In addition to her litigation practice, Sydney regularly advises clients on issues pertaining to ballot measures and elections, including campaign finance and nonprofit compliance with election laws and IRS regulations. She also represents clients in campaign finance disputes in front of state and federal agencies.
While at the GLG, Sydney was a key part of the teams who achieved three unanimous victories at the Nebraska Supreme Court and a trial victory in the District Court of Lancaster County on behalf of ballot campaign committees. Collectively, these victories ensured that Nebraskans had the opportunity to vote on important issues in our community. She also led federal court litigation that secured the release of four immigrants unlawfully detained by the federal government.
Before joining GLG, Sydney practiced at a nationwide Am Law 100 law firm as a member of its commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution team. There, Sydney litigated complex constitutional issues, business disputes, public records disputes, personal injury defense, defamation defense, and employment matters in state and federal courts across the country.
Sydney also spent three years as the Assistant Director of the First Amendment Clinic at the University of Nebraska College of Law. There, she represented clients in constitutional litigation in state and federal court and helped teach the next generation of lawyers how to litigate constitutional issues.
Outside of work, Sydney enjoys reading, paddle boarding, playing board games, traveling with her wife, Amber, and spending time with her cats, Fawkes and Bitty.
